SIMARANHON STUDENT IS NATIONAL CHAMPION By Melchor M. Famorcan Bryan Blair Andal Fallarme, 15-year old student of Corcuera National High School and the eldest of two sons of Blairy Fallarme and Angelina Andal-Fallarme of Barangay Tacasan in Corcuera, Romblon, clinched the National Championship in Sci-DAMA Level III in the 8th National Science Quest held at Pedro Guevarra Memorial National High School, Sta Cruz, Laguna on February 2-4, 2011.
Blair successfully won over other contestants in the elimination round making Region IV-MIMAROPA one of the six qualifiers for the final round. Results of the final round showed that Blair posted 4 wins and 1 loss. He was declared national champion on February 4, 2011 during the awarding ceremony. Regions I and XI got the second place and third place, respectively. Twenty-nine (29) regional winners vied for the championship crown. In my personal interview with Blair, he revealed that he started playing chess when he was four years old and eventually emerged as Provincial Champion in Chess when he was in grade one. In the school year 2007-2008, when Corcuera National High School started joining Division Science Festival, he was chosen and trained by Mr. Shalimar Falcunitin, his science teacher and coach for Sci-DAMA, and started competing and winning in division and regional SciDAMA competitions from then on. Being a constant honor student, Blair loves solving puzzles and math problems. According to him, in all contests he joins he always prays for God’s help. DepED-Romblon Schools Division Superintendent Madam Eve Fajutag and Former Department of Agriculture Secretary Atty. Bernie Fondevilla, both Simaranhons, gladly expressed their sincere congratulations to Blair for a job very well done. Another history for Simara and Romblon. Congratulations! |
